Oviya was born Helen Nelson and made her acting debut in Tamil opposite Vimal in Kalavani,for which she was nominated for a Vijay Award for Best Debut Actress. Later she played lead roles in films including Marina, Moodar Koodam, Madha Yaanai Koottam, Kalakalappu and Yaamirukka Bayamey. Oviya gained star status and massive fan following after her stint in Bigg Boss Tamil Season 1 hosted by Kamal Haasan. Oviya’s latest release 90 ML is running successfully in theatres around Tamil Nadu.
